I want to make you aware of several community meetings and events coming up in the next week or so.  Please make a note of them if you’d like to attend.

Community Meetings

  • Tuesday, November 5th, I will be holding an education Town Hall meeting with Christina School District Superintendent Freeman Williams at Maclary Elementary School from 7 to 9 p.m.  (Maclary Elementary School, 300 St. Regis Dr., Newark)
  • This Wednesday, November 6th, I will be holding my monthly Community Coffee Talk at the Panera on Main Street from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Please stop by to discuss current issues in Newark and our state.
  • Delaware Transit Corporation will conduct a public hearing workshop to obtain comments on DART’s proposed Transit Redesign Plan, which will affect transportation services for all Delawareans on Wednesday, November 6th, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Embassy Suites (654 S. College Avenue, Newark).
    • The proposed Plan includes fixed route bus service expansion, paratransit service model changes, and a fare increase.
    • The hearing workshops will be held in two parts. Anytime from 4 to 5:30 p.m., attendees can review the proposal, maps and other educational boards, interact and ask questions of staff, and provide private testimony to the hearing reporter.  From 5:30 to 7 p.m., there will be an overview of the proposal followed by an opportunity to provide public testimony.
  • The Delaware General Assembly, the Delaware Department of State and the Delaware Veterans Commission invite you to attend dedication ceremonies (rain or shine) for a new World War II Memorial on the south side of the Legislative Hall grounds.  The ceremony will be held Saturday, November 9th at Noon.
  • The Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs and American Legion, Department of Delaware, will host the Veterans Day Ceremonies on Monday, November 11th.  The program, scheduled to commence at 10:30 a.m., will be held at the Memorial Plaza, Delaware Memorial Bridge, New Castle.
  • The New Castle County League of Women Voters organized a candidates’ forum for those running for Newark mayor from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, November 14th at the Newark Senior Center, 200 White Chapel Drive.
