Rep. Andria Bennett's November Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

This is my first e-newsletter, one of many I hope to send over the coming months. Inside, you will find updates on community events, legislative happenings, current issues, and more. I hope you find this a useful resource. Please let me know if any of your neighbors want to be added to the distribution list.

All the best,

Andria Bennett
State Representative
32nd District

Flu season

It’s that time of year again — flu season. Please remember to get your flu shot so you can stay healthy this winter. If you’re not sure where shots are available, click here for a list of locations in the area. I recently was invited by our Governor, Jack Markell, to join him at the James Williams State Service Center in Dover to get our flu shots. As someone who personally hates needles, let me assure you, the momentary pain of the shot is far preferable to a bout of the flu.

Division of Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay administered my flu shot.

Task force on child support enforcement

I recently was chosen to serve on a legislative task force to examine deficiencies within our current child support enforcement mechanisms. I must say, the problems are pretty staggering. Many current child support orders are delinquent — meaning money is owed and payments are not being made regularly to catch up.

The solutions won’t be easy to determine, but I do feel that the people chosen to serve on the task force are capable of finding them. I look forward to working with my fellow members over the coming months to examine reforms in this area.

2013 Capital Holiday Celebration

The 2013 Capital Holiday Celebration will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, in the newly built Loockerman Way plaza. There will be caroling, a visit from Santa, and the city’s trees will be lit. I encourage you all to attend this wonderful community event if you are able. It’s also a great opportunity to see the ongoing work being done to revitalize downtown Dover.

World War II Memorial unveiled

A new memorial to our state’s World War II veterans was unveiled November 9 in Dover. I attended the ceremony and thought it was a wonderful and fitting tribute to the brave men and women who served our country in that war. The memorial was erected outside of Legislative Hall and will serve as a powerful reminder of their sacrifices.

I encourage you to take time and see the memorial for yourself. It is an impressive monument and I am happy it now stands alongside the many memorials we have built over the years around Legislative Hall.

The new memorial to Delaware's World War II veterans stands on the south side of Legislative Hall.
