First Fridays at the Newark Senior Center

Please come out and join me for First Fridays at the Newark Senior Center. I will be at the center on Friday, November 1 from 9 to 10 a.m. Please come and chat about issues in your neighborhood or any comments you might have. The senior center is located at 200 Whitechapel Drive in Newark.


Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The Delaware Solid Waste Authority will be holding a household hazardous waste collection in December for items such as garden pesticides, oil-based paints (no latex paint will be accepted), nail polish, fluorescent bulbs and antifreeze.

DSWA will also be recycling electronic goods such as old computers, printers, CD players, microwaves, telephones, televisions, Game Boys, fax machines, answering machines and VCRs. In addition, they will have a paper shredding. Residents are allowed two file boxes of personal confidential papers for shredding (financial and legal documents, receipts, and tax and medical records). Papers with staples or paper clips are accepted.

Please join us on Saturday, December 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the former Chrysler Assembly Plant, (550 S. College Ave., Newark). This will be held rain or shine.


Public Workshop on Route 72 and Old Baltimore Pike

The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) will be holding a public workshop to discuss intersection improvements for Route 72 and Old Baltimore Pike on Monday, November 4, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Glasgow High School, (1901 S. College Ave., Newark). Please come and learn what DelDOT will be recommending for this intersection and they will be looking to hear public comments and thoughts.



Free Movie and Discussion

The Food Bank of Delaware is holding a free screening and discussion of the documentary, A Place at the Table! This will be held on Thursday, October 24, at the Penn Cinema, 401 S. Madison St., Wilmington. The doors open at 5:15 p.m. and the film will begin at 6 p.m.
