Safe Driving

If you must drive when winter weather hits, please keep in mind that sleet or freezing rain can make driving and walking extremely hazardous. Bridges, overpasses, ramps, and shaded areas accumulate ice first. Approach them with extreme caution and reduce speeds.

All roadways are divided into categories with primary roads (I-95, US Route 202, Route 1, Route 13, and Route 113) and transit routes receiving first and continuous attention. Crews move to the secondary roads only after the primary roads are open and passable.

Drivers can keep up with the latest travel conditions and adjust their routes or travel times by using DelDOT’s smartphone application. The free DelDOT app is available for Android and iPhone.
