Rep. Longhurst Oct. Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

As we move into November, I wanted to share with you some information about various community events throughout the district. Recently, I joined our Congressional Delegation and Governor Jack Markell in officially opening the Mike Castle C&D Canal Trail, a nine-mile path for walkers, runners and cyclists to enjoy the outdoors. I have used this trail, which runs through our district, several times already and highly encourage everyone to get out and take a walk or a ride.

As House Majority Leader, I sent a letter with the Speaker and Whip to Delaware Insurance Commissioner Karen Weldin Stewart recently opposing a proposed 40% workers compensation insurance rate increase. The proposed rate hike, which comes after two straight double-digit workers’ comp rate increases, would hurt small business owners. Commissioner Stewart has responded and we are continuing our dialogue with the Department of Insurance and will continue to oppose any large increase.

I also would like to encourage you to follow me on Facebook to stay informed of what is happening in our state and the 15th District.

If there are any issues or questions you have, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Valerie Longhurst

C&D Canal Trail Dedicated to Former Congressman Castle

Recently, we welcomed Gov. Jack Markell, U.S. Senator Chris Coons and Congressman John Carney to the 15th District to dedicate a nine-mile section of the C&D Canal Trail for former Congressman Mike Castle. The trail begins in Delaware City and runs along the canal, providing a perfect path for cycling, running or just enjoying a nature hike. View more photos from this event on my Facebook page.
