Dear Neighbor,

Happy New Year! This month's newsletter includes information about an exciting parental involvement initiative from the Christina School District, as well as a special community meeting on public safety sponsored by New Castle County Government.

My colleagues and I are headed back to Dover Tuesday for the start of this year's legislative session. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have, or just to offer me your thoughts on any of the important issues facing our state.

I also encourage you to follow me on Facebook to stay informed about what's happening in the 24th District.

Jan. 15 Is "Parents Make a Difference Day" in Christina

The Christina School District has designated Wednesday, Jan. 15, as "Parents Make a Difference Day," in conjunction with the opening of two new Parent Resource Centers located at the District’s administrative offices on Lombard Street in Wilmington and at Gauger-Cobbs Middle School on Gender Road in Newark.

The celebration will feature a cake cutting ceremony with Superintendent Freeman Williams. The cake cutting ceremonies will take place at 11 a.m. at the Drew Administrative Building site, and at 1 p.m. at the Gauger-Cobbs Middle School site

Parents Make a Difference Day was created to formally recognize, thank and celebrate the parents, guardians and grandparents who help Christina students succeed in many ways as volunteers, mentors, boosters and classroom helpers. Schools have nominated a parent or parent group to receive the 2013-2014 Parent Involvement Award, which will be presented at the February meeting of the Christina Board of Education on February 11.

For more information about Parents Make a Difference Day and the district’s Parent Resource Centers, please visit the Christina website at
