I hope this message finds you well and that you and your family have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday. 

In this newsletter, I've included the latest information from DelDOT regarding upcoming Thanksgiving traffic patterns. Please use caution on the roadways and allow extra time to get to your destination this week. 

In addition, I would like to remind everyone of Small Business Saturday on November 28th in the Dover area. Please see below for additional information.

DelDOT Thanksgiving Traveling Information

Dover – The Department of Transportation announces that increased traffic volumes are expected on Delaware's roadways beginning on Wednesday, November 25th.  DelDOT advises motorists to drive safely, allow extra time to reach your destination, and obey traffic laws to ensure a safe trip. 

Planned lane closures on Delaware’s major roadways, Route 1, I-95, and U.S. Route 202 will be suspended at noon on Wednesday, November 25th and will resume at midnight on Sunday, November 29th.  Traffic accidents and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents may cause delays or lane closures.   

The tollbooths at the I-95 Newark Plaza, Route 1- Biddles Corner Plaza, and Route 1- Dover Plaza will have extra personnel to ease traffic congestion. 

DART First State’s statewide transit services, for both fixed route and paratransit service, will not operate on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26.  On Friday, November 27, DART services will operate on their regular schedules. Additional transit information can be found on DART’s website,

SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line will operate on Thanksgiving Day with service to Claymont and Wilmington.  The line will operate on the Holiday Schedule, which is the same as their normal Saturday/Sunday schedule.

For additional information, please contact  DART’s Transportation Store at the Wilmington Station will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.  Train passengers are encouraged to purchase their train fares in advance.  The On-Board fare can also be paid on the train, and a credit for the difference can be received at a Philadelphia SEPTA ticket counter.

Shop Local on Small Business Saturday 

Launched in 2010 as an initiative by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and American Express, Small Business Saturday highlights the importance and endless contributions of small businesses across the United States. The First State alone employs 168,335 Delawareans at the 73,934 small businesses in Delaware, according to the Small Business Administration's Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey. As part of the initiative, businesses and organizations have partnered to provide Delawareans the opportunity to show support for local businesses in their community during the holiday season this Saturday, November 28th.
