Dear Neighbor,

I hope this message finds you well.

With the warm weather upon us, I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you some of the upcoming events in our community, including September's St. Hedwig's Polish Festival. Please see below for additional information.

In addition, I am excited to share with you that Governor Markell has signed two of my bills into law: House Bill 234 and House Bill 435. HB 234 will provide resources to the last of Delaware's high schools that still don't have school-based health centers to establish them, while HB 435 focuses on charter school audits.

Please also take notice of the information I've provided below, which outlines shredding events in the community and details about the National Do Not Call Registry List.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office with any questions or concerns you may have about issues in the 19th District or the state.

New School Health Centers

Rep. Kim Williams watching as Governor Markell signs her bill, HB 234, into law

The last of Delaware's high schools that still don't have school-based health centers will receive the resources necessary to establish them, under a bill that I’ve sponsored that was recently signed into law.

Currently, there are only three public high schools in Delaware that do not have school-based health centers. This new law requires the state to fund start-up costs for at least one per year until every school has a center.

School-based health centers provide an array of important services to meet the needs of ‪‎Delaware public school students. The centers can provide early detection of emotional stress and chronic conditions, promote on-going comprehensive health care of students, provide preventative care and encourage parent involvement in the health of their children. This law will ensure that all children attending Delaware public high schools will have the same access to essential services.

House Bill 234 was signed at Conrad Schools of Science, which will be the first of the three schools to receive a center.

Charter Audit Bill Signed Into Law

Rep. Kim Williams attending the House Bill 435 bill signing

Legislation strengthening Delaware's charter school audits is now state law. I was proud to sponsor House Bill 435 with my colleague, Senator Dave Sokola, to allow charter schools to contract for an audit unless the State Auditor has to perform the audit due to any of the specified circumstances.
