Freshman lawmaker one of 50 chosen nationally for Emerging Leaders Program

STANTON – Freshman Rep. Kimberly Williams has been selected as one of 50 state legislators from across the country to participate in a national leadership conference this summer.

The 2013 Emerging Leaders Program is part of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that provides specialized educational and enrichment programs for state legislative leaders. The Emerging Leaders Program is a collaborative effort of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation and the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business Administration.

A former Red Clay Consolidated School District board member, Rep. Williams, D-Stanton, is in her first year in the House of Representatives. She is vice-chair of the House Education Committee.

“As a new legislator, I am honored to have been selected to participate in this prestigious program,” Rep. Williams said. “I am looking forward to having this opportunity to attend this conference and meeting state legislators from all over the country.  I am especially interested in discussing issues that affect us all on both a local and national level.”

The four-day conference will take place in July, after the legislative session ends.
