Rail Safety Community Meeting Scheduled

 

 Lawmakers hosting meeting for residents concerned about oil tankers traveling by rail

DELAWARE CITY – With the influx of crude oil traveling by rail to the PBF Refinery in her district, House Majority Leader Rep. Valerie Longhurst will hold an informational community meeting next week, joined by Sen. Nicole Poore and Senate Majority Leader David McBride.

In recent months, area residents have raised concerns about emergency preparations in case of an accident involving refinery-bound railcars. The meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, March 3 at the Delaware City Fire Hall, will include a panel of experts to answer questions and brief the public on emergency plans and safeguards. The panel will include representatives from the Delaware Emergency Management Agency, the State Emergency Response Commission, Norfolk Southern, PBF Refinery, DelDOT, DNREC, law enforcement, fire companies and first responders.
