Reps. Mulrooney, Osienski Condemn Supreme Court's Decision

DOVER – In response to today’s United States Supreme Court decision in Janus v. AFSCME, House Labor Committee Chair Rep. Michael P. Mulrooney and Vice-Chair Rep. Edward Osienski issued the following joint statement:

“The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Janus v. AFSCME is a blow to organized labor in Delaware and across our country. It’s not a defense of the First Amendment – it’s an attack on the power of workers standing together. It’s no coincidence that as some have relentlessly attacked and worked to undermine unions, we’ve seen wages stagnate and the middle class shrink. Everyone should support workers’ efforts to be fairly compensated, have a safe workplace and negotiate together.

“We will continue to stand in solidarity with our union brothers and sisters and protect their ability to organize any way we can. Unions give workers a voice in their workplace, protect them from abuse, and helped make this country’s middle class strong. We’ve seen organized labor rise up across the country this year to demand better pay, benefits, and workplace conditions. Janus will not end the ability of workers to stand together and it won’t end our fight for labor protections in Delaware.”
