Reps. Short and Williams on Evraz Mill

CLAYMONT -- In response to Monday's announcement that Evraz North America was suspending operations at its Claymont steel mill, Reps. Bryon H. Short and Dennis E. Williams issued the following statement. The facility is located in Rep. Williams' district, while many of the 375 workers affected by the announcement live in both Rep. Williams and Rep. Short's districts.

"Today's news is disheartening for our state and especially for the hundreds of families we represent who have been hurt by this shutdown. We know that Governor Markell, the Delaware Economic Development Office and the Department of Labor will do everything they can to help the steel mill reopen, but that doesn't change the current difficult situation for our constituents.

"We stand ready to help any workers who have been affected by Evraz's announcement. Please do not hesitate to call our offices at 577-8480 (Rep. Short) or 577-8453 (Rep. Williams) directly if you need help connecting with state services. Our offices are available to assist you. We also will be coordinating with the Department of Labor to ensure that all workers and their families get the help they need."
